Mackenzie Recreation Association (MRA) is a regional nonprofit organization headquartered in Yellowknife, NT.

Mission

Enhance the quality of life of the Mackenzie region residents through physical literacy and active for life opportunities while fostering and supporting the development of recreation, volunteers, and leadership. 

Goals

1 - Build capacity and leadership.

Strategies:

  • Encourage and support all communities to provide or attend leadership training to build capacity within their community

  • Host annual and semi-annual MRA meetings to provide leadership in the region and professional development opportunities

  • Encourage and support capacity building during the MRA signature events

2 - Promote physical literacy in MRA communities.

Strategies:

  • Encourage and support all communities to provide and build a culture of physical literacy

  • Promote and offer physical literacy programming and training opportunities

  • Foster and promote active for life communities and overall well-being of residents

 

3 - Increase participation in physical activity in MRA communities both in recreational and competitive activities.

Strategies:

  • Host multi-sport camps in at least 6 communities annually to provide participants with an opportunity to sample new activities and opportunities

  • Foster and support physical activity, recreation, and sport opportunities for all ages. Opportunities for communities and residents to host or participate

  • Co-host signature events to provide competition experiences and build regional strength through sport and community capacity for coaches, volunteers and organizers

 

4 - Allow for greater opportunities to network, provide professional development, and to expand community and regional sport and recreation opportunities.

Strategies:

  • Encourage and support all communities to provide sport and recreation events

  • Encourage and support all communities to provide and attend leadership training

  • Work with other sector partners to implement their programs in the region

5 - Promote water safety within the MRA region.

Strategies:

  • Host aquatics training for residents at regional aquatics training centers

  • Work with partners to provide basic water safety, aquatic professional development, boat safety & life-jacket training

  • Work with partner to lobby local governments for safe waterfronts in all communities

  • Include aquatics and water smart training in signature events, camps, and programming

 

6 - Enhance our programs and services by developing partnerships with other organizations and sectors.

Strategies:

  • Work closely with sector partners to offer quality and efficient programming while preventing duplication.

  • Seek out and develop partnerships with other organizations and sectors
