 The executive board consists of up to six volunteers: a president, vice president, three regional directors, and a past president (if applicable).  Currently the MRA is staffed by one full time executive director and one seasonal summer staff.

Dale Loutit

Dale was born and raised in the North and the people, nature and wonderful qualities of the north keep her here. She has a diploma in Recreation, Tourism and Community Development and certificates in Recreation Coordinator and Community Leadership but she is always eager to learn more and advance her skills and knowledge both professionally and personally. Dale is outgoing, energetic, and incredibly honest. She's always up for a new adventure, a good laugh, and helping out her community. Dale enjoys volunteering her time with MRA because the organization brings communities together in order to share ideas and encourage inter-community networking and collaboration.

Erin Porter

Erin is the Community Wellness and Recreation Program Leader in Enterprise and is continuously improving her skills and knowledge. She is enrolled in both the Recreation North and MACA: School of Community Government training program working towards her occupational certification in recreation. Erin was a hairstylist by trade and has grown to love the position and the joy of seeing others having fun, getting out, socializing, and living a good life. Erin is a proud momma of 4 beautiful and kind kids that she also home-schools! What free time she does have, she enjoys spending it with family camping, traveling, and having fun with friends.

Alana Lamalice

Director at Large

Alana Lamalice is of South Slavey (Dene Zhatıé), Gwich’in, Cree (Nēhiyawēwin), Chipewyan (Dëne Sųłıné Yatıé) descent, residing in her home community, K’atl’odeeche First Nation, NT. She is a recent BSW graduate and mom of 1 amazing daughter💖who is entering her 2nd year at the U of A.  Alana has a passion for recreation as it has played an integral role in her personal life. Her commitment to recreation is interconnected to cardiovascular and weight training, with ceremonies to maintain a healthier lifestyle. 


Janie Hobart

Director at Large

Janie was one of the founding members of the Mackenzie Recreation Association. She continues to be a part of the MRA and serves on the board because she feels it is important for all community members to have more opportunities to be healthy and active. Also, Janie believes in the benefits to meet and work together regionally and exchange ideas and provide regional sport and recreation opportunities. 


While being on the executive board for MRA Janie enjoys meeting new people, sharing ideas, providing opportunities for community members. As an avid volunteer, she also loves seeing all the happy and smiling faces. 


Liz Pope

Director at Large

Liz is currently the Community Adult Educator at Aurora College’s Chief Daniel Sonfrere Learning Centre on K'atl'odeeche First Nation (Hay River Reserve), Liz’s professional interests include decolonizing and Indigenizing education as well as celebrating, nurturing, and engaging learners in personal growth and being proud of who they are and where they come from.  As part of her lifelong learning path, Liz recently completed the MRA Recreation Leader Training Camp online this past July.


Liz was the Treasurer of the Soaring Eagle Friendship Centre Board, is a current Member of the Hay River Elks Lodge, and a new member of the Mackenzie Recreation Association. In her spare time, she is learning to play the piano, dabbles in crafts, and has a particular interest in learning about medicinal herbs. Her greatest joy is sharing stories about her precious grandchildren.


Jessica VanOverbeek

Executive Director

Jessica started with the MRA in September of 2015 after spending five years working as the recreation coordinator and program coordinator in Kugluktuk, NU. Jessica loves to travel to see new places, faces, and try new foods. When she is not working, Jessica likes to be active (golf, ultimate frisbee, curling, hiking, canoeing, etc) and volunteer with the Special Olympics active start program. 


Abby Webster

Summer Staff 2019

Abby comes to MRA after having taken our RLTC in 2018 and having worked in Hay River as the Summer Heat day camp coordinator. She has competed in AWG, CSG, CWG for the past five years. Abby is currently enrolled in the sports management program at Olds College and plays on their female varsity hockey team. She is extremely passionate about hockey and staying active.
